A Journey of Two Feathers

Empowering Indigenous Guardians to Protect the Land Honoring the Past, Protecting the Future

For centuries, Indigenous Peoples have been the original stewards of the land, using traditional ecological knowledge to maintain balance with nature. Today, as environmental challenges grow, Indigenous Guardians are more essential than ever in protecting ecosystems, wildlife, and natural resources.

However, many Indigenous communities face barriers to accessing comprehensive training, funding, and resources needed to fully equip their Guardians. That’s why we launched Two Feathers Indigenous Stewardship Alliance—an Indigenous-led non-profit dedicated to providing high-quality, culturally relevant training for Indigenous Guardians across Canada.

At Two Feathers, we combine traditional Indigenous land stewardship with modern conservation science, environmental monitoring, and emergency response training—ensuring that Guardians are fully prepared to protect and manage their territories for future generations.

The Vision Behind Two Feathers Indigenous Stewardship Alliance

The idea for Two Feathers was born out of years of firsthand experience working with Indigenous communities and training Guardians. We saw the struggles Nations faced in accessing consistent, high-quality training for environmental protection, resource management, and emergency preparedness.

Currently, Guardian training is scattered across multiple organizations, requiring Nations to seek out separate courses in:

  • Field training & land monitoring
  • Emergency response & safety
  • Predator defence & conservation
  • Indigenous law & governance

This fragmented approach creates logistical and financial challenges, making it difficult for Indigenous communities to establish self-sustaining Guardian programs.

We saw an opportunity to change that by creating a centralized, Indigenous-led training hub—one that provides comprehensive training, integrates Indigenous knowledge with modern science, and removes barriers to accessibility.

Two Feathers Indigenous Stewardship Alliance Is That Solution.

Since our launch, we have:

Established
federal non-profit status to provide large-scale training programs.
Built a
strong leadership team with Indigenous and safety training experts.
Committed to developing
partnerships with Indigenous Nations, environmental organizations, and policy advocates to strengthen Guardian programs across Canada.

This is just the beginning.

Why Indigenous Guardianship Matters

Indigenous communities manage over 80% of the world’s biodiversity.
Indigenous-led conservation efforts have been proven to be more effective
than conventional environmental protection strategies.
Climate change, habitat destruction, and industrial development threaten Indigenous lands, making Guardian programs critical for long-term environmental sustainability.

With the right training, resources, and support, Indigenous Guardians can continue to protect their lands, waters, and communities—just as they have for generations.
